what can i expect when i book with hcj?

You can expect a personal experience filled with care in every step. On the day of your event, the HCJ team will arrive 45 minutes to an hour prior to the designated start time to make sure we are ready and waiting to welcome guests. Prior to the start time, a HCJ handler will reach out and communicate with the venue staff for the location of the beverages and ice. In addition, handlers will accompany our jennies as you take beverages, photos or any questions your guests may have. Your burro will be clean, accessorized, dressed to impress, and ready to party.

What happens if the beer burros make a “mess”?

Ah yes, it’s bound to happen at some point. But don’t worry! Our jennies will be wearing a “bun bag” so any mess made won’t be noticed by guests and quickly disposed of by a HCJ handler.

What can the donkeys carry & how much?

Donkeys can generally pull about twice their body weight across flat ground. As for carrying weight on their backs, a jenny should carry no more than 20%-25% of their body weight. At HCJ, our jenny, Emmy, can carry about 4 drinks per side with ice, and Rosa carries 6-7 drinks per side with ice. For what they can carry- the possibilities are endless (as long as it is within the weight limit). Our jennies can carry drinks like water bottles, wine barrels, beer, tequila. Or, you can choose items like party favors, flowers, and marketing materials. As long as it’s not too heavy, we can get creative.

What is a jenny?

A female donkey! Both of our donkeys are jennies.

what does the reservation process look like?

Because every event is different, and the range of ways our donkeys can serve you is so wide, we ask every person interested in a reservation to fill out our contact form here. Please give us as many details as you can, however, we understand with planning an event not every detail may be known yet. Filling out a contact form does not mean you are committing to reserving us, so even if you are just curious to learn more, filling out the questionnaire is the best way to do so. Once submitted, Hamilton will reach out to discuss more about the needs for the event, payment info, and how we can best serve.

are you insured?

Yes, we are insured with a commercial liability policy.

who provides flowers/signage for jennies?

Our jennies wear custom leather pack saddles with black halters and lead ropes for a clean, timeless look. We also have simple wedding signs, greenery and white flowers for the jennies to wear if requested. If you would like something specific to fit your wedding’s aesthetic, we can work with your florist to make something for the jennies (we would suggest including that in your floral budget). Anything outside of what we have in stock, will be added to your price. Other fun floral examples can be flower crowns, flowers lining or inside the saddle, or a floral wreath to wear around their necks.

Who is responsible for providing beer & ice?

We do not sell alcohol. The venue or client provides all beverages and ice.
